Whitney Houston's Daughter Bobbi Kristina Recovering, Says Bobby Brown | Whitney Houston

February 14, 2012

Despite her rich musical lineage, the path ahead for Bobbi Kristina Brown won’t be easy.

For better or worse, the 18-year-old with musical aspirations of her own will undoubtedly be compared to her mother, the incomparable Whitney Houston.

“There is no way people are not going to compare her to her mother — not to Rihanna, to her mother — and if she doesn’t sound on par with her mother or better, people are going to say horrible things,” Billy Johnson Jr., a senior editor at Yahoo! Music, told ABCNews.com. “The public scrutiny is so great.”

The only child of Houston and singer Bobby Brown had been in Los Angeles with her mother to attend pre-Grammy festivities and was staying at the Beverly Hilton Hotel when Houston was found dead Saturday night in the bathtub of her hotel room.

Whitney Houston’s brother-in law, Billy Watson, told ABCNews.com that Bobbi Kristina was “doing OK” after she “broke down” over the weekend and had to be taken to the hospital twice for stress and anxiety.

Bobbi Kristina, along with much of her mother’s family and entourage, returned to New Jersey Monday night in advance of Houston’s funeral, which is scheduled for Saturday. Her father canceled his tour to be with his daughter and reportedly traveled to New Jersey as well.

“She … is presently with my family, including her siblings,” Bobby Brown told Access Hollywood, referring to his five other children from other relationships.

On the family’s reality-TV show, “Being Bobby Brown,” it was Brown who often acted more like the parent in the often-erratic relationship between her mother and father. Sources close to the family say that Houston’s well-known battles with addiction were also a heavy burden for her daughter to bear.

“It’s very common, when a parent has an addiction, for the child to be parentalized,” Dr. Drew Pinsky, host of HLN’s “Dr. Drew,” told ABC News. “It’s almost a survival mode to try and control and maintain that addictive parent safely, the child takes on the role of parent or parents.”

When stories surfaced last year that Bobbi Kristina Brown might have started using drugs herself, it was her father who came to her defense with a strong denial, telling media outlets, “She doesn’t do that.”

Drew says Brown should be careful about how she handles the inevitable fallout from her mother’s death.

“When people are stressed, when they turn to substances, is when they can turn the switch on for addiction,” he said. “That is my greatest fear for Bobbi Kristina.”

Mother and daughter had begun working together on songs in the recording studio, according to Us Weekly.

With Houston’s death Saturday, the world is eager to see — and hear — more from Bobbi-Kris, as she is known to her family.

“She idolized Whitney,” a source told US Weekly, and “wanted to be just like her mother.”

Brown comes from a musical family. Her father is a former member of New Edition, her grandmother is gospel legend Cissy Houston and her cousin is 1960s pop icon Dionne Warwick.

“People want to know if she has the gift,” Yahoo! Music’s Johnson said.

Brown posted a video in September of her singing a capella Adele’s “Someone Like You” on her Twitter page.

Johnson thought the aspiring singer had shown some improvement since the last time he heard her, performing alongside her mother on “Good Morning America” in 2009.

But Us Weekly’s senior editor Ian Drew wasn’t sure Brown had grown enough.

“She’s not her mother, but she’s not the worst singer either,” he told ABCNews.com. “With the right songs and auto tuning anyone can be big.

“I would encourage her to take her time,” Johnson said. “People said the same thing about Michael Jackson’s children. She needs to sort out things in life a little bit more before rushing into this adult world.

“I think she’s already dealing with a lot,” he said, “and I hate to see her end up in a similar type of situation as her mother.”

Though Skrillex walked into Sunday (February 12) night’s Grammys having already won three categories during the pre-telecast ceremony earlier in the day, he did not have a chance to give a big acceptance speech before taking to the red carpet.

The EDM DJ and producer spoke with MTV News for the second time in the evening and got to deliver his previously untelevised acceptance speeches, which Skrillex delivered after being confused by stage directions. “I was trying to walk off stage, and I didn’t understand,” he said. “Someone was yelling at me. Then I had to go back on. It was just crazy.

“I had three speeches that were all kind of weird and all over the place,” he continued. “There are so many people that I’d like to thank.”

The award for Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical went to Skrillex for his remix of “Cinema,” and on the carpet, he wanted to thank the song’s original artists. “As far as accepting on behalf of the first one, the remix with Benny Benassi and Gary Go, I always thought it was a beautiful song,” he said. “It was an honor to remix it. Benny Benassi is a legend, and Gary Go is so talented and has a beautiful voice.”

Skrillex’s two other awards from the pre-telecast ceremony came from Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites. (The album won Best Dance/Electronica Album and and the title track won Best Dance Recording.) For Skrillex, the awards were just another indication of how far he’s come in such a short time. “It was awesome too because that was my first real coming out and release, my official release,” he said. “A year and a half ago, I was homeless. I’m not saying it’s about money or anything like that. It’s just crazy how quick things happen. They’re happening right now. I fly to Europe tomorrow morning. It’s just like bam-bam-bam.”

But the biggest potential award, Best New Artist, is still ahead for Skrillex, who said that the nod means more than anything. “Just the nominations are enough for me. I’d like to say for the EDM community: It’s your guys’ nomination, not mine,” he said. “Everyone who’s been doing it before and everyone who will come out of their bedrooms after me, it’s yours.”

Every year has one: a runaway Grammy nominee who sweeps through the top categories and appears to be the juggernaut to beat. This year is no different. While Kanye West is the top nominee with seven nods, Adele is close behind with six nods, including bids in all of the top categories.

And while we won’t know whose name will be called until Sunday night’s show, a look at the Record of the Year race is a fine example of why the British songbird might need some help packing her hardware up for the trip back home.

Unless you spent time on another planet this year, and even if you did, chances are you heard Adele’s breakthrough hit, “Rolling in the Deep” a dozen or (many) more times. The stirring soul pop gem was the perfect showcase for the singer’s powerful, richly textured voice, and its ebb-and-flow dynamic packed a relationship’s worth of drama into 3:48. In addition to selling nearly 6 million copies of her album, 21, she also moved nearly 6 million copies of the “Deep” single, earning credit for helping to (slightly) pull the long-moribund U.S. record business out of a decade-long slump.

But she has some formidable opponents in the Record of the Year race, one of the most prestigious awards handed out, which frequently honors the year’s most successful or notable songs. That might explain how Best New Artist nominee Bon Iver got into the mix with the ethereal “Holocene.” Leader Justin Vernon broke through to the mainstream in 2011 thanks to his own folk-and-AutoTuned compositions, as well as work with West.

If “Rolling in the Deep” was inescapable, then Mumford & Sons‘ “The Cave” was just a few notches below ubiquitous, but still all over the place. The banjo-picking, foot-stomping ditty from the English folk revivalists helped cement their status as a force to be reckoned with, while serving as a nice follow-up to their salty breakthrough, “Little Lion Man.” It also helped keep their multi-platinum debut, Sigh No More, a fixture on the Billboard 200 and iTunes charts throughout the year.

Somewhere in between were two huge hits for Katy Perry and Bruno Mars that put a stranglehold on pop radio for much of the spring and summer.Perry’s inspiring “Firework” helped the singer reach elite company on theBillboard charts on her way to landing six top-five hits from a single album, not to mention empowering her young fans to embrace their unique identities.

Any way you slice it, it was also a huge year for Mars, who also garnered six Grammy noms for his Doo-Wops & Hooligans debut as well as his producing/songwriting work on songs by other artists. But it was the sweat and toil he put into the endless love tune “Grenade” that made all that hard work pay off.

“[We] worked extremely hard on ‘Grenade.’ That was the hardest song on the whole album to finish because we knew we had something, and to get all that emotion out,” Mars told MTV News in December. “I think I can speak for all of us when I say that we’re really happy that that song is being recognized because that’s like our trophy song.”

Singer Whitney Houston, who reigned as one of the world’s top pop stars in the 1980s and ’90s but suffered from recurring bouts with drugs and alcohol, was found dead in a Beverly Hills hotel room Saturday.

Law enforcement sources told The Times that paramedics arrived at the Beverly Hilton hotel, where Houston was staying, and found her dead. Her cause of death was unknown, said the sources, who asked to remain anonymous because the investigation is ongoing.

Houston, 48, was in the Los Angeles area for a musical tribute for music executive Clive Davis and had performed earlier this week.

Houston was planning to attend Davis’ annual pre-Grammy party Saturday at the Beverly Hilton hotel, the see-and-be-seen event of the year.

Earlier this week, the 79-year-old Davis perused page after page of guest lists in a bungalow at the Beverly Hills Hotel, where he conducts business when he’s in the Los Angeles area. Among those Houston was expected to rub elbows with: Quincy Jones, Tony Bennett, Akon, Cee Lo Green, Miley Cyrus, Sean “Puffy” Combs, Jennifer Hudson, Jackson Browne, Elvis Costello and Diana Krall.

“It’s a great time where everybody can set down their swords, so to speak,” Davis said, seated on an overstuffed divan next to a coffee table cluttered with papers, CDs and videos. “I was grateful that, inviting them to my home, that they would feel comfortable and just keep coming back, and they’ve kept coming back every year to where it’s expanded to be this incredible haven for musicians.”

Houston had drug and alcohol problems for years, and in May her spokeswoman said she was going back to rehab.

Publicist Kristen Foster told the Associated Press on Saturday that Houston had died but did not provide further details.

Houston was kown for such hits as “How Will I Know,” “Saving All My Love for You” and “I Will Always Love You.” She also starred in movies such as “The Bodyguard.”

THE stepfather of a teenage killed in a horrific car accident
remembered her as “gorgeous girl” who had made a fatal mistake.

Ebony Dunsworth, 16, was a passenger with four men in a car which appeared to
have rolled at the intersection of Bessie Creek Rd and Princes Highway just
after midnight.

Her stepfather Craig Crichton remembered Ebony, from Boronia, as a “funny,
loveable, sweet, cheeky’’ teen.

“She’s a beautiful, gorgeous girl. She made a bad decision,” Mr Crichton
said.

He said he and Ebony’s mother, Helen Crichton, knew the teen had gone to a
party.

She had planned to get a lift home with a friend’s mother.

Mr Crichton said the details about why Ebony decided to get in the car were
unclear.

Mr Crichton said he urged young people to stop and think before taking a
risk.

“I know kids are sick of their parents going on but this is why, because we
love them and we’re only trying to protect them as best we can. Please stop and
think,” he said.

Mr Crichton said other party-goers had told him Ebony had been worried about
the driver’s conduct before the crash.

“All those ads on TV; why don’t kids wake up,” he said.

“We’ve lost someone that was very special to us.”

More than 1700 people have liked a Facebook page set up in memory of Ebony, a
year 10 student at Belgrave’s Mater Christi College, who was a talented BMX
rider.

Amee Leigh wrote: “Eb, you were beautiful and didnt deserve this ♥ R.I.P
xo”.

Another, Dave Silkstone, simply posted: “No way, no words….”

Earlier, it was revealed the occupants of a car that lost control had pleaded
with the unlicensed driver just minutes before the smash killed Ebony.

Police said excessive speed and alcohol appeared to be factors in the
crash.

Investigators believe the group had left a party in Pakenham in a convoy and
a second car in the convoy saw the first car stop and the occupants argue.

Minutes later, the driver lost control going through a roundabout and crashed
into a culvert.

It’s believed the occupants of the car involved in the accident went to a
Pakenham McDonald’s outlet between leaving the party and the smash.

Insp Steve Smith, of the Major Collision Investigation Unit, said the driver,
a 23-year-old Box Hill man, was unlicensed for a prior conviction of exceeding
.05.

The other male passengers, a 20-year-old from Berwick, a 19-year-old from
Upwey and a 20-year-old from Upper Ferntree Gully, were also injured.

Paramedics said they arrived to find the girl and one of the men ejected from
the car and lying on the ground nearby.

“The car was extensively damaged and looks like it rolled onto its roof and
then came to rest back on its wheels,” paramedic Eddie Wright said.

“We aren’t sure if (the man found outside the car) was thrown from the
vehicle but he has significant injuries, including head injuries and collapsed
lungs.”

Paramedics spent an hour stabilising the man before he was flown to The
Alfred hospital in a critical condition.

The driver, who was trapped for about 45 minutes, suffered back, arm and head
injuries and was flown to the Royal Melbourne Hospital.

Insp Smith said police hadn’t spoken to him because of his injuries.

The driver’s speed and blood alcohol concentration at the time of the smash,
which happened in an 80km/h zone, are unknown.

“Witnesses have told us the vehicle stopped just prior to the collision,
there was argument about the driver’s driving behaviour but unfortunately they
have got back in the car with him and he hasn’t slowed down,” Insp Smith
said.

“He’s continued at high speed resulting in the death of his passenger.

“(He had) a prior conviction for exceeding .05, which again just makes it
blatantly obvious as to the fact he shouldn’t have been driving. If he wasn’t
driving it wouldn’t have happened.”

Insp Smith said the smash was one of two “which really didn’t need to
happen”.

The driver could face charges of culpable driving in relation to Ebony’s
death and serious injury and dangerous driving charges in relation to those
injured.

Robert Downey Jr. and Susan Downey have a new baby boy

February 7, 2012       12:20 pm

Robert Downey Jr. and wife Susan have welcomed a baby boy, Exton Elias Downey.

Exton clocked in at 7:24 a.m. Tuesday in Los Angeles, weighing 7 pounds, 5 ounces and measuring 20 inches long, according to various reports.

The “Iron Man” star had joked with Jay Leno in December that the pregnancy had “been tougher on me” than on his wife. “Just the hormones and the moods stuff and the nausea, and the whole thing.” This was the same interview where he blurted out that they were expecting a boy.

Though this is a first child for Robert and Susan, little Exton already has a big brother: Indio Downey, 18, the “Sherlock Holmes” actor’s son from his marriage to Deborah Falconer. The actor married Susan, a producer, in August 2005.

Downey will be seen this May in “The Avengers” and next year in “Iron Man 3.” Talk about a cool dad.
